Ski Season Ends April 27, 2008Hotel Alyeska is located just 35 miles south of the Anchorage Airport off the scenic Seward Highway at Alyeska Resort in the town of Girdwood. The non-smoking 304-room Hotel Alyeska is located at the base of Mount Alyeska. For skiers and diners, the 60 person Aerial Tram travels 2300 feet up to the Glacier Express and Seven Glaciers restaurants atop Mount Alyeska. Ski Season is scheduled to run until April 27, 2008.Ski-in and Ski-out during the winter, and close to Portage Glacier, Prince William Sound and the whole of the Kenai Peninsula. Towering trees, surrounding mountains and glacial streams make this valley a spectacular location for hiking, biking, horseback riding, skiing and snowboarding. There are seven glaciers that hang above Girdwood Valley, including one tucked into Alyeska?s own glacier bowl. Guests can view the fjord-like waterway known as Turnagain Arm and the Kenai Mountain Range opposite Girdwood valley. Travelers coming from the cruise ship port towns of Seward or Whittier will find Alyeska Resort an easy solution to a pre- or post-night stay. Though 35 miles south of Anchorage, Alyeska Resort is an easy drive with unlimited picture stops along the scenic Seward Highway. National Geographic Magazine calls it ?one of the top ten drives in North America.? The Prince William Sound port of Whittier is nearby as is the Portage Glacier and Chugach National Park Interpretative Center. Forty miles north, in Anchorage, the resort operates the Anchorage Golf Course, an 18 hole course with magnificent views of Mt. McKinley (20320 feet) and Mt. Foraker (17400 feet). The Bill Newcomb 1987 designed course offers tee-offs as late as 2200 pm due to the long Alaskan summer sunshine.
